It’s also one of the fastest-growing houseplants, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for something that will quickly green up an empty space in your home.

This is one of the toxic plants so you may want to elevate it out of reach of children and pets.

Pothos – Epipremnum Aureum:

The Pothos is also known as Devils Ivy. It is a great choice for those who want a low-maintenance plant that still looks beautiful.

Give it free draining soil and never let it sit in water. Aloe Vera is a succulent and prefers drier conditions. Aloe Vera is one of the most used medicinal plants on the planet.

English ivy – Hedera helix:

This house plant is very easy to take care of but is considered invasive in many areas if planted outdoors. (I keep mine in pots)

You can also grow one in just water. Peace Lilies will bloom a beautiful white flower and come in both a solid and variegated leaf. They can grow to be 16 inches tall and make a lovely statement.

Snake Plant – Sansevieria:

Sansevieria prefer bright, indirect light. They will grow decently in dark, low light areas too, just more slowly. Keep out of cold drafts and in temperatures at 50 degrees or above. The snake plant is also known as Mother In Law’s tongue. The upright architectural nature is perfect for narrow spots in a room.

African Violets

African Violets were a favorite of my Grandmothers’ and now they are one of my favorite houseplants. They bloom in an array of colors and are just a lovely plant in general.

Follow a few simple rules and they should reward you with blooms several times a year and low growing foliage the rest. African Violets thrive in warm, humid, and bright conditions.

They bloom best when they get 12+ hours of light and at least 8 hours of dark.

Wandering Jew

Wandering Jew is a name given to many plants in the genus Tradescantia. I have two different types but what we will talk about here today is Tradescantia zebrina.

This beautiful houseplant thrives in bright indirect light, the better the light the prettier the foliage. Water when the top 1/2″ of soil is dry or use the Moisture Meter I have referred to before.

They do like to be kept moist but not wet. (many houseplants prefer this)

This is an easy plant to get started with cuttings and then you can have plenty to use in your outdoor containers as a spiller.

Christmas Cactus (also Thanksgiving Cactus)

The wonderful plants are also called Zygocactus and are fairly trouble-free.

Give them bright light, humidity, and proper water and they are good to go. They are not a true cactus so don’t treat them as one.
