Welcome

Hi, I’m Pamela

I am so glad to meet you. Won’t you join me in the garden?

I love to share all the garden doings, tips and tricks and experience I have gained over the past 40 years working in the dirt.

I learned my garden lessons the hard way, by hands-on experience and extensive research. Some things failed while others flourished. I share here the knowledge I have gained and what I am now learning.

Growing up my favorite book as a child was The Secret Garden and during my teen years I would pour over Organic Gardening while my friends were enthralled with Teen magazine.

I grew my first garden in the San Joaquin Valley, zone 9b. The soil was pure loam and the weather was perfect for growing just about anything I wanted.

The valley had a very long growing season, which was heaven. The summers were hot and the winters mild, but draped in heavy fog for weeks on end.

But it was vastly different from where I live now. My point is I have grown a garden in various conditions and learned how to make the garden flourish wherever I am located.

I now garden in Zone 8b in the Mountains of Northern California. I am surrounded by tall evergreen trees that block direct sun half the time and we get heavy wet snows until the end of May. I have unique challenges that I have had to overcome giving me unique insight into what makes plants tick.

I want you to enjoy the journey of creating the garden of your dreams, the process should be as enjoyable as the result. Rather than stumbling through the glut of convoluted info on the web, learn from my mistakes and experience right here at Flower Patch.
