Fabulous Morning in the Garden
Every morning I walk the garden with my coffee, chat with the bumblebees, deadhead a few flowers to encourage more blooms, and breathe deeply of the cool, sweet scent of a summer’s morning.
I will share some things I saw this morning.

The Oriental Lilies are blooming and perfuming the entire garden.
The Stargazer Lilies are just fabulous.
The Morning Glories are opening up; they like the heat.
These climb the lattice that obscures the untidiness under our back deck.
Some find Morning Glories a bully, and in Arizona, they are considered invasive, but I have found some named varieties that are well-behaved and don’t reseed in my garden well. Flying Saucer has not reseeded well in my garden at all, so it may be safe for those who find heirloom varieties like Grandpa Ott a bit overzealous.
In my garden, where the aggressive morning glories reseed too readily, I merely hoe them under when they first germinate. They have a distinctive shape when they first sprout and are easy enough to remove.
Cerise Queen Yarrow is a lovely dark magenta. Yarrow comes in several colors and is so easy to grow.
If you want to grow Yarrow in your garden and want some great tips, I have an entire post and videos available to help you.
My Nearly Wild Rose is reblooming.
With those needle-nose beetles gone, the petals are not all pitted and holey.
I have learned that the nasty beetles are rose weevils, and I have successfully battled them with an organic product called Systemica.
The Pow Wow Wildberry Echinacea nearby is just exploding with vibrant color. Echinacea is a must-have in my garden, and I grow several varieties. To learn more, you can read all about them here.
The Peace Rose is giving me full bouquets on a single cane.
Get a load of this luscious gorgeousness…
I took a close-up so I could try to paint it one day.
I was tickled pink when I spotted this…
It is a Trumpet Vine getting ready to bloom!
I started this one and several others from seeds I collected at an acquaintance’s home. The parent is just gorgeous and a hummingbird magnet.
I have it planted in a container so it won’t turn into a bully and send out runners to other parts of the garden!
I was beginning to think it would not bloom as I put it in this spot 3 years ago, and over the past few summers, it has not had one bloom. But look at it now. I couldn’t be happier!
I am especially pleased by the 2 pink roses I planted beside my little Cottage/Studio
I had transplanted them late last Fall and did not know if they would take.
I love the pink against the yellow.
Have a great day!

I know I don’t do well with most Hybrid Tea roses, they just do not like our climate. But the English Roses and Heirloom roses do much better. Peace is one of only 3 Hybrid Teas I have and this year has been the best for it to bloom for me, I have probably had it a good 5 years.
Glad I could bring you a bit of flowery enjoyment. I would go quite crazy if I could not grow pretty flowers.
So beautiful!!! With my sandy soil and the high heat and bitter cold here, I really appreciate being able to enjoy your garden, since growing here is a total pain!
Loved strolling around your garden, such lovely plants in such vibrant colours.
My favorite has to be the Peace rose, I had a beauty when I lived in England, but have tried with two here in France, without success. I think it must be the cold wet winters it doesn’t like.
