The height is reputed to be about 12 inches with a potential maximum height of 18 inches.

What is a Tiny Tim Tomato?

Tiny Tim Tomatoes are little plants (dwarf variety) that are an excellent choice for growing in containers or very small gardens.

These small plants produce countless clusters of 1-inch cherry tomatoes during the growing season. They are sweet and juicy, making them perfect for salads or snacking. Plus, they’re easy to grow—even if you don’t have much space or experience!

They are a determinate variety of cherry tomato but some claim they carry on producing like indeterminate tomatoes. Many determinate tomato varieties have a short production time.

Note: Determinant tomato plants grow to a set height and produce all their fruit at once, while indeterminant plants keep growing and producing fruit throughout the season.

And though it is debated they are a miniature heirloom tomato! Some claim it is an heirloom tomato as it was developed around 1947 and others say it is not as it isn’t open-pollinated. (if that sort of stuff matters to you)

The Tiny Tim tomato plant flowers and fruits earlier than many others and is easy to start from good seeds. (get a head start and begin indoors under a grow light)

easily Grow Tomatoes from Seed

Do you want to know how to grow tomatoes from seed? It is a really fun, rewarding experience, and it is easier than you might think! This is a super way to grow varieties not available at garden centers.

I have not found Tiny Tim tomato plants at garden centers or nurseries but I will shop around for them again this year.

Some have asked about a Tiny Tom tomato but I think they may be referring to the Micro Tom tomato which is even smaller than the Tiny Tim and will grow on your window sill as well. I may need to give that one a try soon. Tiny Tim are dwarf plants and it is stated you can grow these in a 6-inch pot in a sunny spot on a window sill.

How to Grow Tiny Tim Tomatoes

All you need is a pot filled with soil and plenty of sunlight. Full sun works best. You can grow these in small containers, such as 6 inches but you will do much better if you give them more space.

A container that is at least 18 inches in diameter and deep will provide the best results but you can try smaller pots or containers if you need to. Maybe in sunny window boxes?

I love using buckets and tubs in my garden along with other containers.

Buckets and Tubs Garden

Galvanized tubs and buckets container garden is a wonderful way to add beautiful blooms on a patio or deck. You can even grow vegetables in them!

(I will test growing these in smaller pots this summer and let you know how it goes)

I link the tomato seed starting info above but here it is again, now we are assuming you have started some plants from seed and they are large enough to pot up.

They should have their second set of leaves before you pot up.

Start by filling your pot with good quality well-draining potting soil. If necessary, mix in compost or other nutrients for healthy plants. Tomatoes thrive on rich soil.

DIY Potting Soil

DIY potting soil mix is so simple to make and so much easier on the budget. It is also easier on the environment if you use earth friendly ingredients!

Then, plant your seedlings as deeply as you can, remove the lowest set of leaves so you can plant them deeply then water them in. Planting the stems deeply creates roots all along the plant, more roots make for a healthier, heartier plant.

Where to Grow Tiny Tim Tomatoes

Place the pot in direct sun outside after your last frost date and consistently warm weather with nighttime temperatures that are 50 and above. (make sure to harden them off well first)

Our spring temperatures can fluctuate and one week we have warm weather that is excellent for tomatoes then drop dramatically. The beauty of having miniature plants in pots is you can move them to a protected area until the threat of frost passes.

Caring for Tomatoes in Pots or Containers

Tomatoes in pots or containers will need more frequent watering than those planted in the ground. Keep the soil moist but not wet.

Adjust watering to fit your climate or weather. When in a hot and dry location they may need more frequent watering and if you get little to no rain during the summer. A thick layer of mulch can help retain moisture.

And you will need to provide a good organic fertilizer. I have found this one to work the best with container plants and it is organic. Follow the directions on the container for how much and how often.

This works Great for Containers too!

Rather than simply blending ingredients together, we put them through our proprietary Progressive Digestion Process (PDP) to break down the nutrients into a simple form that plants can absorb rapidly. This process is the reason why users can see results in less than a week after applying!

Be sure to prune any dead leaves so your plants can focus their energy on producing tomatoes instead of foliage. Give support as needed using bamboo canes, small stick or cages. These are a tiny plant and should not need much support.

Being a heavy yielder the fruit may weigh down the stems so you choose to let them flop or prop them up. After about two months (or when your tomatoes start turning red), it’s time for harvest!

The best part about growing these little tomatoes is that they require minimal effort but yield big results. You can have fresh tomatoes all summer long without having to do much work at all!

With Tiny Tim Tomatoes, anyone can be an expert gardener – even if they don’t have much space or experience. So grab yourself a pot and get started on your very own backyard tomato patch today! You won’t regret it.
