What are metal raised beds?

Metal raised beds are exactly what they sound like – metal frames that hold soil in place to create a garden bed. Why should you consider using metal or steel raised garden beds?

Metal raised beds are great for gardeners of all levels because they’re super durable. This means you won’t have to worry about replacing it after a few seasons, unlike wooden raised beds. Corrugated metal is especially easy on the eyes and will look beautiful in your back or front yard!

They also aren’t as heavy as wood beds, so they’re easy to move around if you want to switch up your garden layout.

How do they work?

Raised beds work by holding soil in place to create a garden bed. The metal sides keep the soil from eroding or washing away, and if you create a cover for them they turn into a mini greenhouse. You can use them to grow flowers, vegetables, herbs – anything you want!

Are Metal Raised Beds Safe?

Yes, metal raised beds for gardening are safe, even for your vegetables. There is only a slight chance that some of the zinc can get into your soil but soil needs zinc. All good!

Won’t metal raised beds get too hot for plants?

Most plants like warm soil, so this would actually be a good thing. Those that prefer cool soil also prefer shade, so they wouldn’t be in the hot sun anyway. While metal is a good conduit for heat, soil is not. So even in the hot sun all day, the soil inside the metal is only going to get warmer for the first couple of inches.

Another trick I use is to plant around the outside edges of my so the plants actually shade much of the metal once filled in.
