What’s Up at Flower Patch

Flower Patch is a Hot Mess!

Flower Patch is a Hot MessToday we are going for a reality check.
I know you see neat and tidy whenever you arrive to visit but to be real I will show you what is up around here.
Last May…..yes 5 months ago I got started painting the interior of my Studio Cottage.  My husband chipped in and did the painting after seeing how it was arduous for me (give me decorative painting any day but painting walls is not my forte’) It is so boooooring!
My studio needed better light and the white certainly achieves that.   More light will be key to producing better painting tutorial videos this winter.
As well as photographing projects.
After the walls were painted the rest was up to me.
But I have been buried in so much all summer that the actually putting things back into place has not occurred.
So that has been my focus for the most part this week.
That multi colored monstrosity in the corner is a beautiful armoire, I use it for storage.
I ordered paint to repaint it this week.  This things holds a ton of stuff, but it is rather bulky so I debated removing it from the studio cottage entirely.  I am not sure what I would do for storage so I am not settled on what is it’s fate.
One thing is for sure, it is getting a fresh coat of paint.

I have been going through my stencils and should sell off a bunch I am no longer interested in using.  The problem is photographing and listing is so time consuming, so that is on a back burner, so I may move them to a shelf in our basement to store for now.
You can see how the painting of the interior has really lightened up the place.  The little shelving unit to the left on the painting workbench is what I am building right now to hold my bottles of craft acrylics.  It will hang on the wall between the windows. Super simple to build and it will be nice to have my paints better organized.  I can’t wait to get it hung and filled.

Hand Paint a Huge Fall Welcome sign, an easy DIY with a PDF of the wording and access to free tutorials for the Fall designs to paint them yourself. FlowerPatchFarmhouse.comThe reverse is going to have a fun winter theme. Think Snowman!
While I have been working on the shelf I also have been building a new bench to do a post on.
I get a lot of hits on the DIY Victorian Farmhouse bench post and thought we needed another design to mix it up a bit.

here is it in its humble nakedness.
I am not sure what color to paint it yet.
studio progress and bench, FlowerPatchFarmhouse.com (16 of 20) The garden is winding down but I am still working furiously in my Secret Garden.  I am seeding, transplanting and prepping for next Spring.   Planning ahead is key to a full lush garden in Spring time.
My DIY garden arbor has been a hit and I just finished laying my pavers for the path to the center seating area of the garden.
studio progress and bench, FlowerPatchFarmhouse.com (18 of 20)I have been planting different Sedums along the edge so next Spring they should fill out and be a pretty, hardy low growing border.   The Secret Garden is a work in progress but I hope to share a fabulous, flower filled wonderland next Summer.  I will also incorporate veggies in this garden.  Veggies are beautiful too!
Last but not least I have been working in the greenhouse, I am attempting to make topiaries from Lavender and Rosemary.  We are basically just getting started but here is the beginning.

This is all the prep work to bring you garden goodness, better lit videos and photos of my stuff, and DIY tutorials.
I wish you a great day and come on back to see everything finished up and photo worthy!

  1. I feel for you, moving our goodies is tough, I have been trying to purge along with shifting and it is so hard decide what can be given away. I have a sewing corner in the guest room but I need to decide if I really need a bed in there full time or if a good air mattress would serve us better so that I can utilize that room better. We have guests rarely and it seems a waste of space in our small cottage to reserve that for such little use. The benches are fun to make and even more fun to paint. 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for even wishing you could help, if you could I would’ve certainly accepted. 🙂 I am coming along though, table is painted and the armoire is looking greener by the day. I just have to add the little pads to the feet to make it easier to shift around even when it is fully loaded. I am just getting into the succulents and I am hooked! I love them and am working on a little patch in front of my house that is perfect for a grand collection. I can’t wait to share that as well.

  3. I’m so envious of your having a studio of your very own! I WANT ONE!
Wish I could help you ready it but I wish you full steam ahead. Thanks
for sharing your painting lessons. I used to paint and also have a succulent collection and gardens.

  4. I enjoyed the peek into your studio. I’m in the process of switching my sewing/quilting room with my painting/crafting room. I need to empty the rooms, disassemble the shelving, replace the carpeting with wood floors, paint the walls – then put everything back in! It’ll be nice to have everything organized.

I like your benches. I need to make some.

  5. It certainly would be faster and easier if I could focus solely on finishing it. Today I will make good progress as it is the main task at hand. Plus my paint came in yesterday to paint the armoire. I do need to get casters or those little pads to put on the feet to make it easier to move around for when I want to use the back wall as a staging area. I wish you fast success with your linen closet. I have a small one, more of a cupboard than a closet but it is in dire need of purging too.

  6. Wow you sure have a great studio and I would keep the armoire in there for sure. What a great way to hide all your things. I’m currently dreading cleaning out my 12 foot linen closet. I think I’ll turn most of it into craft storage but I hate the thought of how bad it gets before it gets better, lol. Hubby will be out of town all next week so that will be a good time to get it all done.
