Glass Painting, working on a new Skill
With all the cold and snow I have been busy in my little studio cottage aka She Shed working away on bettering some new art skills. It is a snug and cozy spot to watch the snow fall and blanket my garden while painting away.
Glass and ceramic painting is a whole new ball game for me. It takes getting used to as the paints on glass just don’t move the same as they do on wood or canvas. I have to modify my strokes to get the look I am aiming for and it takes more patience as you must let each layer dry before painting the next.
On Facebook and Instagram I have been sharing photos of what I have completed and I thought you all may like to see it too.
These tulips have been a real trial for me but I think I have it figured out. This is still in progress so it does not look that great.
Next up is a thrift store cup I painted on, an opaque background is a little easier than clear glass. I love strawberry motifs and this was sheer pleasure to paint.
I am keeping this for myself!
I have painted on several vases, trying out new flowers or scenes. I tend to lean towards florals but I have done a tropical scene that came out better than I had hoped. I failed to photograph the Palm tree on the opposite side which is different than the one shown. The vase is already sold so I need to make another.
I tested out painting Hummingbirds on the glass, don’t ya know that was a huge challenge but I did learn along the way.
One of my favorites so far is this Red Poppy. Red is usually a difficult color to get opaque but I managed it with about 3 coats.
The Pansies were fun too and a tad easier.
I am still working on Morning Glories..I am having a hard time getting the centers to blend well.
Roses are a favorite thing to paint for me and I have done a few vases so far with roses…this one may be a fave. Here is a link to a tutorial on how I paint roses on glass.
I made little luminaries from my Snowmen jars…
All of these items I am practicing on are either empty jars from food we have consumed or thrift store finds transformed into art. Once of these days I may feel confident enough in painting on glass to do more tutorials to share what I have learned.
But be warned, it can be addicting!
In the meantime I am plotting out some more painting tutorials and garden fun. I have to get busy with my winter sowing soon, I am behind!
Happy Painting and may you have Sunshine!
