A Basket of Pansies
If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you have seen this painting already.
Thank you all for your suggestions, compliments and encouragement. I am going to try and get the video tutorial done soon.
It took me a while to get it finished as I hit a few roadblocks along the way.
I got this far and took photos…
it definitely needed something else. I realized having an even number of pansies in the basket was not going to work so I added one more….
but even with that it still looked like something was missing or it was off balance. I had thought to add some white flowers along the tendrils coming off the top left but I still wanted the blues and purples to take center stage.
I was afraid adding white would distract the eye so I compromised…
I added some lavender flowers instead of white, though there is a touch of white at the tips of the lavender to give it a spark of light.
I think it was the right choice and now I can declare this one done.
It is on the larger size, it is painted on a 16″ x 20″ wrapped canvas. I am so used to painting on wood that I am just adjusting to the springiness of the canvas. It does give it a nice, rich texture.
One reason it has taken me so long is I am also working on signs to put in the gallery. The subway signs are popular, I did pink hearts with the linen lettering on this one. The last one I did was just a white crackled background with black lettering. I failed to get a photo of it before hauling it to the gallery. I will also have these in my online Shop, see the menu bar at the top of this page to find how to get there.
Here is the big ol’ Welcome sign I made for the Gallery entrance. Do you think that will catch people’s eye and draw them in? The flip side is the Fall Welcome I did the tutorial on last October.
A fun little sign that is perfect for the garden shed or cottage is this little gem.
Tomorrow I will be working on the mountain but Friday I will be back in the studio. I am working on a painting of tulips.
