Hand painted signs ordered as gifts.

A few hand painted signs I have been working on for customers.  These are special orders and not available on the website.

I know I promised a tutorial on painting Poinsettias, I wanted to have it done by tomorrow as it is Poinsettia day and I did practice today.  I can’t say I am quite accomplished at it but I can at least show you the steps.  I think the video will include me making errors and having to fix them so all of you that get discouraged when it seems you just can’t get your brush to move right will know that even I have to struggle through until I have done it numerous times.  After painting many, many strokes your brain picks up the pattern and you can move your hand and brush the way you need it to in order for the stroke to look right.

Now lets hope the videoing goes smoothly tomorrow and that I will have a bit more light.  The skies were so dark today with this storm that it made it difficult to get clear photos or videos in the studio.  I did take a short video with my iPad of the inside of my studio.   It is one of those “keeping it real” type videos where I show you my “studio of shame”,  at least that is my name for it.  My studio/cottage is such a huge mess right now it is crazy and I have not had one spare moment to whip it into shape.   By showing everyone it maybe it will keep the incentive brewing to get it cleaned up.  Right now I have the desire but I do not have the time.  I have too many signs to get done and shipped by next week.
Birds of N. California paintings, FlowerPatchFarmhouse.comI don’t like being under pressure to paint but that is the way it is this time of year and I will say I did give myself plenty of time but as invariably happens things crop up that get in the way of my painting and I am cramming at the last minute.  I did make sure to stop taking orders a few weeks ago and yet I am still behind.
Private Custom signs, FlowerPatchFarmhouse.comI have a bunch of recipes coming up.  Yummy sweet things, different breads and definitely some savory delights.
Can you guess what this is…???  This was the test run but since it turned out so deeeee- lish I will definitely be sharing a post on it soon.
mystery meat, recipe to follow soon, FlowerPatchFarmhouse.comOkay, enough rambling from me tonight…I hope you are well and your week has some sunshine in it, so far we have seen little sun but I hope that changes after this storm passes.  Even one day will be wonderful.  I am just a sun loving gal.  I think I have converted my husband too, we were watching a Magnum P.I. episode and he was lamenting not living in Hawaii right now.  It looked so gorgeously warm and sunny.
Oh, one more thing to share.  I finally was able to take a halfway decent photo of the hand painted clay tags I did with Roosters.  This is the complete set.  I should’ve staged them with something that gives you a sense of scale so you can tell the size of them.

  1. I have done so many signs…do you have a bit more info? Was there more than a poem on it or was it just the lettering. Did it have an Iris on it with the poem? I am trying to think of ones with poems. 🙂

  5. I love that motto! And I have to agree. I have been very much into ‘birds’ lately and was glad when a customer ordered the paintings with local birds on them. I loved doing them on the dark stained wood.

  6. I say keep doing them all! Very inspiring 😉 thank you

  7. I LOVE chickadees! They’re just adorable. I’d love to see a tutorial. I live near Portland, OR; the motto amongst artists is “Put a bird on it”.
    And the roosters are wonderful!

  8. Thank you, Kay. I need feedback like this to know which direction to go with my tutorials and videos. So I will definitely put this on my to do list!

  9. The birds are beautiful. Please do a video on those gorgeous birds.
